Overview

An interesting walking tour around the historic part of Ivano-Frankivsk. Starting from the monument to Ivan Franko you will see Nezalezhnosti (Independence) Street, Union Hotel - Dnister Hotel (Odessa Hotel, Parliament of the Western Ukrainian People's Republic) - Commercial Court on Shevchenko Street (the residence of Bishop G. Khomyshyn) - Medical University (Magistrate) - Sheptytsky Square (People’s Assembly to decree the Union on January 3, 1919) - City Hall - Armenian Church - Synagogue - Philharmonic - Society "Sokil" (Falcon) - City Court in Grunwaldska Street (State Secretariat).

Even now not many people know the fact that Ivano-Frankivsk (and at that time - Stanislaviv) was the capital of the Western Ukrainian People's Republic in 1919 (January-May) during the Ukrainian-Polish war. The acquaintance with the Stanislaviv of that time begins with the largest monument to Ivan Franko located near the Nadiya Hotel. Walk along pedestrian Independence Street with picturesque cafés and restaurants. The Union Hotel, which hosted prominent politicians of that time, and the Dnister Hotel where fateful historical decisions were made. The Palace of Bishops and the Seminary of the Stanislaviv Eparchy of the Greek Catholic Church, the Central Building of the Medical Academy built in an eclectic style with a courtyard where the city was governed, a cozy and small square with a monument to Adam Mickiewicz. Rynok, the city central square, with its adornment and highest point of the city – the Town Hall, the city court where the government of the Western Ukrainian People's Republic, which then formed the young Ukrainian state of Galicians, was located. During the tour you will visit the temples, the Cathedral of the Holy Resurrection, decorated with a five-tiered iconostasis, the Armenian Church and the synagogue.
