German-speaking diaspora in Stanislaviv has made an invaluable but forgotten contribution to the development of the city. The Soviet government used to associate the Germans only with Hitler. But in fact, thanks to the Germans we have railway connection in our city and The locomotive repair factory. Now there is the neighborhood "Maisley" in Ivano-Frankivsk.  The German word “Meißelf” has become the source of this name. The German priest Theodor Zöckler and his community created an unprecedented phenomenon - a kind of city that was formed inside a city, which had it’s own church, school, wood and metal processing factory, gardens, orchards, orphanages, hospital and clinic.
